Do you know everything about stretch in knitted fabrics?

Sep,08 2022

swimwear knitted fabric are one of the avoided fabrics in the sewing world, but sewing with knitted fabrics is actually very simple and very rewarding. Knitwear is a must-have item in every woman's wardrobe. Because they are easy to wear and maintain, they are available in a variety of patterns, styles and weights.
firm stretch
The least stretchy stretch knit of all fabrics stretches up to 20% across the grain. As a rule of thumb, they are the easiest to use because they have little elasticity. Fabrics are medium to heavy in weight, including double jersey, sweatshirt knit and boiled wool.
Double knit: Double knit is made of tiny knit and ribbed fibers that look the same on both sides of the fabric. The rib and heavyweight quality make it a little thick, so the rib knit fabric is desirable for skirts, dresses, jackets and coats.
Sweatshirt Knit: Also known as sweatshirt fleece, sweatshirt knit should not be confused with the more stretchy cotton fleece. The jersey knit has a smooth vertical rib on the right side and a soft, fluffy surface on the reverse side. It's super easy to use and desirable for cool weather sportswear, jackets and, of course, sweatshirts.
Boiled wool: Mechanically knitted and washed to shrink, boiled wool is very soft and is often used in scarves, hats, jackets and other cold weather garments. Boiled wool is also commonly found in dress fabrics.
